Coffee... With a Dash of Morality!!!

I'm always interested in stories about coffee. This story has the feel of an e-mail forward but please read and I'd love to hear your thoughts.

A group of alumni, highly established in their careers, got together to visit their old university professor. Conversation soon turned into complaints about stress in work and life. Offering his guests coffee, the professor went to the kitchen and returned with a large pot of coffee and an assortment of cups: porcelain, plastic, glass, crystal, some plain looking, some expensive, some exquisite - telling them to help themselves to the coffee. When all the students had a cup of coffee in hand, the professor said:

"If you noticed, all the nice looking expensive cups were taken up, leaving behind the plain and cheap ones. While it is normal for you to want only the best for yourselves, that is the source of your problems and stress.

Be assured that the cup itself adds no quality to the coffee. In most cases it is just more expensive and in some cases even hides what we drink. What all of you really wanted was coffee, not the cup, but you consciously went for the best cups... And then you began eyeing each other's cups.

Now consider this: Life is the coffee; the jobs, money and position in society are the cups. They are just tools to hold and contain Life, and the type of cup we have does not define, nor change the quality of Life we live.

Sometimes, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to enjoy the coffee God has provided us." God brews the coffee, not the cups..... Enjoy your coffee! "

Matthew 6:19-21

19 "Do not put away riches for yourselves on earth. Moths and rust can destroy them. Thieves can break in and steal them. 20 Instead, put away riches for yourselves in heaven. There, moths and rust do not destroy them. There, thieves do not break in and steal them. 21 Your heart will be where your riches are.

That was a great story Paul and a wonderful illustration of truth. It is interesting that in order to develop the flavor and aroma of the coffee the bean has to be roasted, ground and flooded with hot water. To take the analogy one step further, the stress and grinding of life intensify the experience of living.

Interesting article but I'm going to be the Unspiritual rebel here...

For me the cup I drink my tea in makes a big difference to the enjoyment. It tastes better in a porcelain/ceramic/china mug than styrofoam. And if I'm putting my tea in a travel mug I steep it in a regular mug first otherwise my tea is stainless-steel flavoured. I like a thin lip as opposed to thick and I like seasonal mugs. A great cup of tea in a great mug makes the tea and the experience of drinking the tea that much more satisfying.

Rain down hellfire now...

I was gonna say the same thing Hugh!
While I wholeheartedly agree with the point of the story... The cup I dink my coffee from matters a great deal to me... ask my wife.
Do I need to repent for that?
